(August 20th, 2020) With the support of the Kate Svitek Memorial Foundation and Grassy Waters Conservancy, the Preserve Nature Center offered a unique program for the children attending summer camps in West Palm Beach.
This summer’s program intern was Christina Eure, a Palm Beach County resident and junior at St. John’s University in New York.
Since the children could not travel to the Preserve, Christina traveled to the camps where she was a guest speaker. She also developed several videos which brought Grassy Waters Preserve to the camps.
These videos were enjoyed by the campers and will be available to school children in their virtual classrooms this year. In these videos Christina took the children on walking tours of the Preserve where she taught them about the importance of this natural habitat, and the animals and plants that make it their home.
Below is a link to a YouTube video that Christina created for the campers in grades K-2.
The video features the habitat through a chain arts and crafts activity that she designed to emphasize resources that animals need for survival. She taught and recorded this activity live through Zoom with the campers.
